help

It’s human to need help. But, too often we dads try hard to be superhuman, refusing to believe we need help. Help positions us to receive surprising gifts like humility, life lessons, friendship, and even learning to become good helpers ourselves. Asking for help is a superpower that can be practiced, crafted, and nurtered.

friendship

“The only way to have a friend is to be one,” Ralph Waldo Emerson. Yet, as men, it seems we are taught to seek independence, self-determination, and solitude. However, friendship gives us belonging, community, and the strength to conquer obstacles. If “every man is an island,” then he is part of a larger archipelago. One hill in a range of mountains. The reward is worth the work.

perspective

We all crave adventure. However, we tend to seek it “out there” somewhere and forget that adventure often lies wherever our feet are. There and right here. No matter where we find it, every worthwhile adventure requires help and friends along the way. Whether trailblazing the new or experiencing the daily mundane, life is the greatest adventure. Seeing life as an adventure requires a change in perspective. Adventure is less about place and more about perspective.

“I started homedad because I see my own need for help, friendship, and perspective in this journey of dadhood.”

— Jonathan Chambers, Founder of homedad, proud girldad x3 (3, 11, 13)
